Sermon Outline

Luke 15:11-31 (NLT)

“(1) Tax collectors and other notorious sinners often came to listen to Jesus teach. (2) This made the Pharisees and teachers of religious law complain that he was associating with such sinful people—even eating with them! (3) So Jesus told them this story:”
Tyndale House Publishers. (2015). Holy Bible: New Living Translation

After the religious leaders complained, Jesus told three Parables in Luke 15:

  1. Verse 3 (NLT) “So Jesus told them this story” – The parable of the Lost Sheep
  2. Verse 8 (NLT) “Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins” – The Parable of the Lost Coin
  3. Verse 11 (NLT) “To illustrate the point further, Jesus told them this story” – The Parable of the Prodigal Son(s)

All the parables share the same main point:

If you have been followed God faithfully fo years – are you resting on your laurels? Do you still seek to share the gospel with those lost younger brothers and sisters around you?

If you have tired of speaking out about the good news and now expect sinners to turn from sin before you offer help – then you are in danger of being a self righteous prodigal older brother.
