Proverbs 12:25 (NIV)

²⁵ Anxiety weighs down the heart, but a kind word cheers it up.

Causes of a heavy heart:

• Proverbs 12:25a Anxiety weighs down the heart …

• Proverbs 17:22b (NIV) …  a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

• Proverbs 15:13b … heartache crushes the spirit.

The Results of a Heavy Heart:

• Anger
• Depression
• Addiction

The Cure for a Heavy Heart

Medical intervention may be necessary

• Turning to God and being filled with His joy and peace (Rom 15:13)
• A cheerful heart is good medicine (Prov 17:22)
• A happy heart makes the face cheerful (Prov 15:13)
• Those who promote peace have joy (Prov 12:20)
• A kind word cheers the heart (Prov 12:25)
